HOME-MADE MASKS

Vaccination for the Pandemic is almost covering people each day globally giving a sigh of relief on one hand but on the other hand my dear readers it’s happening again. We have to live with the fact that it’s not going to get over anywhere soon. Till when it’s going to last, no answers to that? No one knows! As per reports from John Hopkins University, this will probably get over by 2024, till then; everyone should know that we have to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. No matter if you are being got vaxxed twice.

Don’t ever think if you are vaccinated you can’t come in contact with the virus. Yes, you can! All you have to do is wear a mask and wash your hands without fail. As the news of third-wave hitting Europe and the USA already doing rounds we should be more careful now and keep ourselves ready for the next wave. So to keep that in mind as masks are becoming mandatory in most places. We should behave more responsibly and lessen this COVID spread by doing our bit.

By now I assume most of us have already developed a habit of sanitizing hands and wearing a mask. For me it has become my second nature trust me, I never leave my house without a mask. And for fashionable people like me, clothing and fashion brands introduce amazingly beautiful masks and so on. But meanwhile, people also created homemade masks; kudos to the people who created these masks at home. But these masks come with certain precautions and care.

Wearing a homemade facial covering/non-medical masks is becoming a fast norm worldwide. WHO reminds us that wearing them has not only been prevents COVID but also protects the person wearing them and is not a substitute for physical distancing and hand washing.

Home-made masks can be useful for a short period of time; when physical distancing is not possible in public settings, inside shops, malls, offices, grocery stores, or using public transit.

When choosing homemade facial covering/ non-surgical masks, it is important to know how to put them on, take them off and clean them to ensure they simply do not become a germ/virus trap attached to your face.

ALWAYS CHECK HOW TO WEAR IT

According to Health Experts Worldwide non-medical masks/ face covering should:

  1. Allow for easy breathing
  2. Fit securely to tie or ear loops
  3. Maintain their shape after washing and drying
  4. Be changed as soon as possible/damp or dirty
  5. Be comfortable and not require frequent adjustment
  6. Be made of at least 2 layers of tightly woven material fabric (cotton linen)
  7. Be large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaping

ALWAYS CHECK HOW IT FITS THE FACE

The very important thing that you should always keep in mind:

  1. The non medical face masks/face coverings should not be shared with others or be placed on anyone or unable to remove them without assistance or anyone who has trouble breathing.
  2. They should not impaired or secured with tape
  3. They should not be made of plastic or be made exclusively of materials that easily fall apart as as tissues
  4. Should not be place on children under 2yrs of age

Remember homemade masks may not be effective in blocking virus particles that may be transmitted by coughing, sneezing, or spreading of virus particles because of a potential loose fit of the material used. When putting them or taking them off, do not touch the front of the mask/covering and avoid touching the mask while it is on your face.

ALWAYS CHECK FOR ANY LOOSE FITS

I hope you keep that in mind because COVID is now part of our lives and we have to keep stopping the spread by wearing masks as this is the big game-changer in the fight from COVID.

Stay happy, stay blessed and stay safe!
